Game on for Situational Management

Here’s a tense situation, familiar to many U.S. football fans. It’s fourth down, just inches from the goal line, and just seconds left in the game as the clock ticks down. The team is trailing and needs to score a touchdown to win...

The play is sent in from the coaches, and fans are holding their breath. On the snap of the ball, the running back takes it from the quarterback and leaps high in the air, toward the goal line ... and scores.

For the winning team, this is situational management at its best...

Examples of the importance of well-done situational management abound. Beyond U.S. football, it is essential to success in soccer, hockey, basketball, volleyball, and many other sports. In business, it is vital to preventing fraud.

Can AI machines think without humans?

Humans are creative in many walks of life. Great works of art, literature and music give testament to this fact. Creativity is the use of skills and intelligence to generate something unique. At SmartCloud, with artificial intelligence (AI) being a core of our software technology, we sometimes ask if machines with AI can be creative without humans. But a more relevant question for us is: "Can AI machines think without humans?"

The Imitation Game

For many years, scientists have been debating whether AI machines would ever be able to think for themselves. The English mathematician, Alan Turing, who is featured in the just released movie "The Imitation Game," created the "Turing Test" in 1950 to determine if a computer could imitate a human well enough to fool judges 30% of the time...

AI at the movies

Is “thinking” technology overtaking fiction?

Often cinema, like science fiction literature, ends up becoming reality.  SmartCloud’s technology, artificial intelligence, has been a popular theme in cinema past and present. And in these cinematic worlds of artificial intelligence we are introduced to androids, robots, and friendly and malevolent computers.

So much of AI has already become reality – AI within computing devices large and small is making society more efficient, productive, and entertained.  We at SmartCloud find AI at the movies to be a fun way to future possibilities.  Let us know if you agree…

Sports Agents, Secret Agents and AI Agents

There are many kinds of agents.

In the 1996 movie Jerry Maguire, the title character is played by Tom Cruise. He is a sports agent for the Cardinal's wide receiver, Rod Tidwell, played by Cuba Gooding, Jr. The best way for his agent to represent him, argues Tidwell, is to "Show me the money."

M1 gives a new assignment to the British Intelligence Agency's "007," also known as "Bond – James Bond."

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is an organization called Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.)...

Let's Make a Deal with Bayes

You are on a famous game show with three doors to choose from, each hiding a prize. One will make you very wealthy while the others are silly, worthless jokes…

You pick the middle door. But then to heighten the drama, the show host, who knows what is behind each door, opens the one on the left, which is worthless, and offers you a deal to either keep your first choice or switch.

What should you do? Stay in the middle or switch to the right? Which  door gives the best chance for wealth? Or does it not matter?
